Students in Ms. Miller’s ELA class participated in a  9/11 memorial in conjunction with The National Park Service and Flight 93.  Students listened to various speakers at Flight 93, we recited the Pledge of Allegiance with the people at Flight 93, and we listened as they read the names of the heroes who sacrificed their lives that day for the safety of others. Students also shared their thoughts on what is a hero and how can we honor heroes in our own communities.

A hero is someone who does acts of kindness for other people, even if it puts their life at risk. People can show gratitude to the heroes by thanking them and making signs and things like that. They could also do other acts of kindness to repay the heroes for the work they have done. (Vinny Ammerman)

A hero to me is someone that will do anything for anyone without wanting anything in return for doing it. For example, my dad saved our neighbor's life when he had a heart attack. (Ella Eckenrode)

A hero is someone who does good for the world, who gives sacrifices. People can act heroically in the community by doing activities to help others. (Leah Jeffries)

A hero is someone who makes lives better and/or keeps people safe. This could be a policeman or just someone walking around giving compliments to people. A way someone could show gratitude to these people is just being kind back or thanking them for everything they do. (Alexa Miller)
